58th Street Bridge over
Kansas City Southern Railway

Client: City of Kansas City, Missouri -
Public Works Department

Our bridge engineers were selected by Kansas City, Missouri, Public Works Department to design a replacement bridge on 58th Street over the Kansas City Southern Railway (KCSRR). The existing bridge is a three-span, timber structure with wood plank decking. Currently posted at 3 tons, the bridge provides the only outlet across the railroad tracks for a 10-home neighborhood. We have completed the alternative analysis looking at several possible options for structure type and location. The preferred structure is a three-span, prestressed concrete deck girder.

SIGNIFICANT DESIGN ITEMS:

  • Collaboration with Kansas City Southern Railway
  • Alternative analysis
  • Bridge and approach roadway
  • Right-of-way descriptions
  • Public involvement
