Brown Creek Phase III
Drainage Improvements

Client: City of Merriam, Kansas

Continuing erosion of this creek channel was eradicating back yards and in some locations threatening building structures through this residential neighborhood.  The design included installation of large-block modular retaining walls to stabilize the channel and add an attractive amenity at the same time.

In addition, storm sewer improvements were made to the intersection of 53rd Street and Farley Court just above the channel.  These improvements added inlet capacity to the existing street system to alleviate flooding of homes at the low end of the street.

Affinis provided survey, design, legal descriptions, permitting, and construction observation services for the project.  We also provided a public involvement program that included three public meetings.

SIGNIFICANT DESIGN ITEMS:

  • Roadway storm drainage improvements
  • Utility Coordination
  • Public Participation
  • Large-block modular retaining wall
  • Erosion control
