I-470 View High Drive to Douglas & Route 50 Interchange

Lee's Summit, Missouri

Client: Missouri Dept of Transportation - District 4

This is a collaborative project that includes private, city, and state cooperation to accelerate the schedule for the improvements to this critical interchange. The City and developer of a large shopping center created a Transportation Development District (TDD) to fund the city’s share of the improvements. The State of Missouri acquired Economic Development Funds for their share of the project, and administered the design contract and bidding. This project includes the coordination with numerous cities, including Kansas City and Raytown.

The existing interchange is a standard cloverleaf within 1.5 miles of four diamond interchanges. With this tight spacing, there are numerous weaving overlaps, as vehicles try to enter and exit the highways in the same space. The interchange currently serves over 100,000 vehicles per day. This is the bookend interchange to the project we completed at Route 350 and I-435. That project is currently under construction and will be completed in 2006.
