Briarcliff Parkway, Phase 1

Northwest Briarcliff Road to
North Oak Trafficway

Client: City of Kansas City, Missouri -
Dept of Parks & Recreation

Affinis' residential street team is in the final stages of design for Briarcliff Parkway from N.W. Briarcliff Road to North Oak Trafficway. Our design will transform the existing narrow, open-ditch residential collector into a state of the art parkway for the northland. The design is complicated by hilly terrain, poor sight distance, storm drainage issues, a dog-leg in the horizontal alignment and mature landscaping. By using context sensitive design, we have been able to blend the improvements into the existing neighborhood and provide a safe, aesthetically pleasing design.  The design includes adding an enclosed storm sewer system, curb and gutter, sidewalk, retaining walls and decorative street lights, replacement of the existing water main, relocating overhead utilities to rear easements or underground and adding street trees and decorative monuments.

SIGNIFICANT DESIGN ITEMS:

  • Utility coordination with KCP&L and Kansas City Water Services Department
  • Public participation
  • Storm drainage
  • Landscaping and amenities
  • Right-of-way acquisition
  • Retaining walls

COMPLETION DATE: FALL 2008

COST: $2 MILLION, ESTIMATED
