2005-2010 Capital Improvement Program

Client: City of Merriam, Kansas

As of today, Affinis has designed 3.4 miles of residential street upgrades identified in the Capital Improvements Program for the City of Merriam, Kansas. Construction of the street and drainage improvements for Lowell Road from Johnson Drive to 55th Terrace and 55th Terrace from Goodman Street to Lowell Road is underway. This project is part of the 2007 Capital Improvements Program.

We are providing design services for the City's residential streets that are identified from now through 2010. In all we will design more than 5 miles of residential streets for the City. The design for these residential streets includes converting the existing open-ditch streets to curb and gutter sections. Complete reconstruction of the pavement and new underground storm drainage system carry the largest impact to the neighborhood. New sidewalk, driveway reconstruction and City street lights finish the project. Affinis provides all design surveys and writes the property descriptions for right of way and easement acquisition. Traffic control and erosion control plans for construction are also developed.

SIGNIFICANT DESIGN ITEMS:

  • Open-ditch to enclosed storm sewer conversion
  • Public participation
  • Utility coordination
  • Fit projects to steep terrain and narrow rights-of-way
  • In house survey and legal descriptions
