Route 33 Improvements

Washington Street to 19th Street

Client: City of Kearney, Missouri

In 2001, the City passed a bond issue enabling construction of this 1.5-mile arterial widening. Using Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) funds and local funds, the Economic Development Innovative Financing project added a continuous left-turn lane through the corridor. Five-foot sidewalks, landscaping, and decorative lighting were used to accent the character of the old part of downtown. An in-depth public involvement program was a significant part of the project.

SIGNIFICANT DESIGN ITEMS:

  • Pavement widening
  • Hydraulic analysis
  • Construction phasing
  • Public involvement program
  • Traffic signal design
  • Period lighting fixtures
  • Landscaping

COMPLETION DATE: 2005
