2011 Cambridge Street Improvements
Client: City of Prairie Village, Kansas
The City of Prairie Village, Kansas retained the services of Affinis Corp, to evaluate alternatives for the realignment of Cambridge Street (State Line Road to 79th Street) and to study the impact of creating tee intersections at Cambridge Street with both, Somerset Drive and Booth Drive. The objective for this project is to improve intersection geometrics as well as shifting the northern section of Cambridge to the west to create a larger area for Weltner Park.
Affinis performed a traffic study to evaluate the function of the Cambridge/Booth and the Cambridge/Somerset intersections using the existing and alternative geometries. Each alternative was evaluated based on its impact to traffic flow and its potential for creating the greatest opportunity for Weltner Park to expand. Intersection delay and capacity were determined using a traffic modeling software called Synchro Studio 7. A recommendation was then provided for which alternative should be designed and constructed at the pertinent intersections.
